Duval Street Key West - Bars and Nightlife

Duval Street in Key West is one of the most popular tourist attractions to see. On Duval Street, you will find Ernest Hemingway home and museum, the Key West Aquarium and the Southern Most Point of the continent. These attractions are popular enough on their own, however, Duval Street is known for another type of tourist attraction; bars. The street is blocked off from cars, so, you can easily walk Duval Street and enjoy the sights.


Duval Street is home to many popular watering holes. Some of the most famous places to go have a drink, include; Sloppy Joe's Bourbon Bar, Flying Monkeys, The Rum Bar, 801 Bourbon Bar, and The Smallest Bar in Key West.

Sloppy Joe's Bourbon Bar 201 Duval Street

Sloppy Joe's Bar was Hemingway's preferred stop. The bar officially opened the day that Prohibition was appealed. You can buy a drink here and also grab a bite to eat.


Flying Monkey's Saloon 227 Duval Street

Flying Monkey's is where you grab a frozen libation. The bar offers frozen cocktails from frozen beverage machines that you can order then drink while you peruse Duval Street.

The Rum Bar will give you a nudge and remind you that you are in a tropical local since it offers a wide variety of rums to choose from and rum drinks like their "Pain Killer" cocktail.

The 801 Bourbon bar is infamous for its drag shows. Come here to drink and dance and enjoy the mixed crowd. Sure to please.


The Smallest Bar in Key West 124 Duval Street
 
The Smallest Bar really is small, only 72 square feet. Come here to grab a rum runner and imbibe outside. It was formerly known as the old Custom's House Inn.

Key West Key Lime "Conch" Pie

Key lime pie is so famous that the State of Florida deemed it their state pie. Key limes are more tart and tangy than regular limes and lend a great flavor to this all time favorite dessert. Some like to eat their Key lime pie with whipped cream, however, those that prefer a meringue topping are eating a Key lime pie known as Conch Key lime pie.

Kite Surfing in the Florida Keys

Kite Surfing combines wind surfing, paragliding and wakeboarding into a sport. Its fun and its extreme!


The wind takes you across the water on a small surfboard while you steer and control your movements via a hand control harnessed to a kite.


Kite Surfing is gaining popularity as the design of the kites and boards have been redesigned and are safer then their prototypes. The updated kite surf boards have newer release mechanisms and safety designs.


How to kite surf in the keys:


Expect to pay anywhere from $250 to $1300 for lessons if you are a beginner. Packages include lessons for 1 person for 2 to 5 days.
